Apple Butter Cheese Twist

Ingredients
 

  •  1 C. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  •  1/2 C. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (17.3 oz) package puff pastry sheets, thawed
  •  1 large egg, lightly beaten
  •  1/4 c. Apple butter
  • 2 tsp.chopped fresh thyme

 
Directions:
 

  •  Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the cheddar and parmesan cheese.
  •  
  •  Sprinkle a clean work surface with ¼ cup cheese mixture. Place 1 puff pastry sheet on top of the cheese and sprinkle with another ¼ cup cheese. Use a rolling pin to press the cheese into the dough. Roll the paper into a 10 x 14 inch rectangle. Repeat the process on the second sheet of puff pastry with 1/2 cup of the cheese mixture.
  •  Wipe the surface of the pastry sheet with a egg watch. Place the other sheet on one of the prepared sheets, brush the top with apple butter, keeping a 1-inch margin, and sprinkle with the remaining ½ cup cheese mixture and thyme. On the second sheet, fabric side down, gently press the fabric together. Place the folded sheet in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  •  Transfer the cooled sheet to a cutting board. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into ¾-inch-wide strips. Transfer the strips to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them at least 1 inch apart. Pinch the ends to close and fold each side over the other side to create a circle. If they start to bend, gently insert the ends into the skin. Refrigerate the ingredients for 30 minutes or freeze them for 15 minutes. Rinse the cooled ingredients with a kitchen towel and bake until golden and crisp, 20 to 25 minutes.
